Hiking Local National Parks or Other Areas

by Jamie
(Utah, USA)

We love to find a national park or local area to hike as a family. As we drive there we try to spot different things (Car Bingo with things like "deer" or "river"), and we like to take photos of what we see to look up and identify later. The national parks will usually have some sort of Earth Day fair or Earth Day activities of their own happening, and we've found it's a great time to talk to our kids about leaving nothing but footprints with the food and snacks we bring in. It's also just a great way to get outside as a family, slow down, enjoy Nature, and spend time together without the distractions of phones or computers (we bring a cell for emergencies, but it's turned off while we're hiking).

Check out www.trails.com for lots of great (known and hidden) spots in your local area.

Thanks for the link to the hiking trails! I hadn't thought to look for a database for trails!
